Team Belarus went beyond the rivals from Austria in the match of the Davis Cup Europe/Africa Zone 2017 held in the Palace of Tennis, Minsk.

It was Ilya Ivashka who brought the third point for Belarus in the meeting with Gerald Melzer – 7:6 (7:3), 3:6, 6:3, 6:1.
The match lasted for 2.40 hours.
Day one was also a success for Ilya when he beat Jurgen Melzer (7:6, 6:3, 4:6, 7:6).
Besides, Yahor Herasimau surpassed Gerald Melzer (6:3, 6:3, 6:3) on April 7, and on Saturday the Belarusian duet of Max Mirnyi and Yaraslau Shyla lost to Austria’s Julian Knowle/ Jurgen Melzer tandem (4:6, 6:7, 7:6, 4:6).
A big contribution to Belarus’ triumph was made by fans who filled up the stands and passionately supported the Belarusian athletes. Leading Belarus’ tennis player Victoria Azarenka was among them. She’s getting prepared to return to tennis after giving birth to the son.
In this way, Belarus won the match with a score of 3-1 and regardless of the outcome of the final singles obtained the right to keep on playing for entry in the Davis Cup World Group.
