The Belarusian secured a quick and confident win over Jacarra Winchester of the United States to clinch the Women’s Wrestling 53kg bronze on 6 August.
Vanesa Kaladzinskaya was one of the main contenders for the Olympic gold, but at the end of the semifinal bout she allowed a submission hold from Qianyu Pang of China and missed out on the final.
The athlete said that it was the mistake on 5 August that made her concentrate and show her best against Winchester.
This is the fifth medal for Team Belarus at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
President of Belarus’ NOC Viktor Lukashenko congratulated the Belarusian athlete on a bronze medal.
“You have achieved considerable heights throughout your career, winning world and European championships. Today you have made your dream come true and filled your trophy case with an Olympic medal. I am sure that your personality and determination will help you remain one of the top athletes in this sport.
I wish you to retain your dedication and commitment. I also wish you well-being and new victories in the future!” the message reads.
