Viktor Lukashenko and Thomas Bach held talks in Lausanne

On January 21, at the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee in Lausanne, First Vice President of the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Belarus Viktor Lukashenko with the President of the IOC Thomas Bach participation in the meeting.

Viktor Lukashenko noted the role of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in supporting world sports. Both leaders had already met earlier at the events of the II European Games in 2019 in Minsk, on the margins of the 48th General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees in Poland and expressed their readiness to expand cooperation.


«At a meeting in Warsaw, we discussed with you the prospects for expanding cooperation in the sport of the highest achievements. After consultations with the sport community in Belarus, I should note that we are ready to consider the possibility of organizing any events under the aegis of the IOC», – said the First Vice President of the NOC of Belarus. 


Thomas Bach noted that he was again glad to see the Belarusian delegation and drew attention to the symbolic place of the meeting: an office in the building of the IOC, which bears the name of Juan Antonio Samaranch, one of the distinguished presidents of the organization from 1980 to 2001.


«Belarus pays a lot of attention to sport. Last year you held one of the largest sports forums - II European Games. I attended personally some sport events and the closing ceremony. The Belarusian side was brilliant with the Games hosting. I’m sure that the III Winter Youth Olympic Games will give young Belarusians a lot of positive emotions», – he said.


On January 21, the Belarusian delegation also held meetings with the heads of IOC departments in various topics, as well as other structural units of the organization.




The Belarusian delegation also visited the Olympic Museum, where there are 10 thousand exhibits.
