Viktor Lukashenko meets with young Belarusian athletes

People's diplomacy is among the main tasks for the Belarusian athletes to accomplish at the International Forum for Young Olympians, President of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Belarus Viktor Lukashenko said to young Belarusian athletes on 31 May during a send-off ceremony to the international sports forum in Moscow.

“Our delegation is going to Moscow to participate in the forum of young athletes for the third time already. But it is for the first time that our delegation will be so representative. I would like to thank the Russian NOC for organizing and inviting us. The best representatives of our young sports community, who are the future of our sport, have gathered here today,” Viktor Lukashenko said.

He asked the young athletes to complete three basic tasks during this necessary and important athletic trip. “First, get plenty of rest. Many of you have finished intensive training, some of you are just starting it, and others are in the middle of training right now. Some rest will be great for anyone. The program of the trip is eventful and you will have a chance to relax and see the sights,” the president of the NOC of Belarus said.

Secondly, it is important to pay attention to the educational aspect. “The Russian side offers a very interesting program. It starts with information on doping and goes up to the principles of the Olympic movement which should unite us. Unfortunately, right now we do not see that. Therefore, education is the second task,” Viktor Lukashenko said.

Third important task is people's diplomacy. “You will be people's diplomats in Moscow. In fact, athletes are always people's diplomats. It is one thing when you take part in competitions and you simply have no time to care about that. A whole lot different is when you have an opportunity to look around, talk to your peers, exchange information. The young people have always been known for their open-mindedness,” Viktor Lukashenko said.

The NOC president added: “Despite the pressure exerted on us and on you by the international sports organizations, our sports officials will definitely do their best for you to feel good. So that you have the opportunity to compete at all international competitions and achieve what you deserve. Have a good journey!”
