The gymnasts representing their national federations present in Kiev, at the 32nd World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships elected in camera Lioubou Charkashyna (BLR) as representative of their discipline to the Athletes’ Commission of the FIG. Only candidate in the running, she was elected unanimously.

Aged 26, member of the Belarusian national team for 13 years, Lioubou Charkashyna enjoys great popularity and the highest respect within the international Rhythmic Gymnastics community. Elite athlete, bronze medallist at the London Olympics 2012, European champion in 2011 at her home town in Minsk (Ball and Clubs), she is also a fervent activist for the promotion of women in sport in her National Olympic Committee.
 
After her election she declared that she was excited about this new challenge and was looking forward to contributing to the development of Rhythmics and its athletes within the FIG and the world.
 
In Kiev, in his welcome address to the gymnasts present, the FIG President, Prof. Bruno Grandi, made it a point to remind all of the vital role played by athletes in the International Federation. "Your opinion counts. Your experience helps us to grow, to improve. Actively participate in your respective technical committees and remind us, if necessary, that the gymnasts, I was one myself, are at the heart of all our actions !", he declared solemnly .
 
The mandate of Lioubou Charkashyna enters into force on 1 January 2014. Within the FIG Athletes’ Commission, she will be accompanied by Ayla Ahmadova (AZE) and Aldrin Rodriguez Garcia (MEX), the already elected representatives respectively of Acrobatics and Aerobics. In the Artistic World Championships of Antwerp (BEL) in September and those of Trampoline in Sofia (BUL) in November, voting will take place in order to appoint their delegates to the Commission, currently chaired by Jani Tanskanen from Finland.
