On April 6, Alexander Karshkevich, the renowned Soviet and Belarusian handball player, the Olympic champion of Seoul 1988 as part of National Team of the USSR, the multiple champion of the USSR, coach of the SKA-Minsk team celebrated his 60th anniversary.
On the eve of the birthday the ceremony of the athlete’s rewarding was held at the headquarters of the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Belarus.
Taking into account the significant contribution to the development of the Olympic movement, mass sports and sports of the highest achievements, as well as the popularization of handball in Belarus, the Vice-President of the NOC Sergei Repkin congratulated the hero of the day and presented the certificate of honor of the NOC Belarus.
«The name of Karshakevich is known not only in our country, but also far beyond its borders. I personally saw people who still simply admire your game. What you did on the court is unforgettable. Good health to you, Alexander! Take care of yourself! You are a legend! And only thanks to you, the current generation of athletes will be able to take the sport correctly, sincerely and seriously!», - said Repkin.
In turn, the Olympic champion thanked the NOC for the high appreciation of his work.
«The most important thing in sports is honesty! Athletes must be “clean”, striving for victory, and then everything will definitely work out. And it is important to love your sport: if you love handball, then you need to play handball!», - said Alexander.
