This was announced following the executive committee meeting of the Belarusian Football Federation on January 6.
Football Federation Chairman Yauheni Buloichyk commented on Viktar Hancharenka's appointment to this post:
"I believe Hancharenka is currently the most worthy candidate, the most renowned coach in Belarus. The first meeting took place in early December. It lasted an hour and a half. Financial matters were discussed much later.
We share a common view on most positions. It didn't take much effort to invite Hancharenka," said Yauheni Buloichyk.
Hancharenka began his coaching career in 2004 at BATE Borisov. From 2007 to 2013, he was the head coach of the Borisov team. Under his leadership, BATE won the Belarusian championship six times, reached the Champions League group stage for the first time, and also reached the Europa League Round of 32. In continental competitions, Viktor Goncharenko's team defeated Bayern Munich, London's Arsenal, and other renowned clubs. After leaving BATE, the Belarusian coach led Russian clubs CSKA, Kuban, Ural, Krasnodar, Ufa, and Paris Nizhny Novgorod, leaving the latter in June 2025.
In the fall of 2026, the Belarusian national team will compete in the next season of the UEFA Nations League. Viktor Goncharenko's team will compete in the third-tier division of the competition, League C. The draw for the UEFA Nations League group stage will take place on February 12, with the matches taking place from September 24 to November 17.
