The choice of venue for the show was no coincidence. The iconic amphitheater (dating back to around 30 AD) embodies Italy’s rich cultural heritage.
The event marking the conclusion of the Games brought together music, art, and sport. The organizers aimed to convey to the world the creativity, ingenuity, and passion that distinguish Italy. The ceremony celebrated not only sporting achievements but also the country’s cultural identity and new accomplishments.
As part of the official proceedings, the Olympic flag was passed to the next Winter Games hosts, the French Alps, who will take the stage in 2030.
IOC President Kirsty Coventry also delivered a speech. She praised the athletes and thanked the organizers.
“You have been bold, brave, strong, full of hope and passion. You gave your all on the snow and ice. You left everything out there and shared it with us. That is the Olympic spirit. You have shown what excellence, support, and friendship mean in a world that sometimes forgets.”
The organizers of the Verona ceremony made sure to incorporate moments from the Games’ opening at the San Siro stadium in Milan. The stage first appeared as a drop of water, symbolizing ice and snow, and then transformed into a traditional Italian piazza.
Performing at the сlosing ceremony were renowned rapper and Verona native Achille Lauro, icon of Italian dance music DJ Gabry Ponte, as well as the orchestra and choir of the Arena di Verona Foundation.
