On June, 29 first medal events in boxing took place at the 2nd European Games. Belarus’ Dzmitry Asanau had a final bout with Gabil Mamedov of Russia. To the fan’s joy, Dzmitry became the champion of the tournament.
Judges verdict 4-1 was in favor of our team boxer. It is the second medal for Dzmitry at the European Games. He clinched silver 4 years ago at the European Games in Baku and gold at the Championship of Europe that was held alongside with 2015 European Games. Thus Dzmitry has now 2 prominent medals.
Dzmitry Asanau: «When the judge raised his hand, my first thought was that all the work done, all the way that my coach, my father and I went through, was not in vain. Knowing the importance of the tournament, I did my outmost, it wasn’t even 100 % but 200% training. Sometimes I even left gym with tears. But it was not in vain and we achieved the result we’ve been working for tirelessly. I’m very glad. The support that came from my fans helped me. I tried not to pay attention to the external noise, but there was so much buzz for three rounds straight. It helped me and gave me a lot of confidence. I’m very grateful to my fans.».
We congratulate the athlete and Belarusian team on winning gold!
