
Mikita Lyakh won the swimming event at the 3rd CIS Games in Ganja, Azerbaijan.
In the 50m freestyle, the Belarusian swimmer outperformed the strong competitors Matvei Nesterov and Matvei Chekalev of Russia clocking a time of 22.82.
“I warmed up well before the event. I got this feeling I could achieve a good result. The competition was intense, and I enjoyed my performance here in Azerbaijan,” Mikita Lyakh said.
This season, Mikita Lyakh won gold at the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) in North Macedonia.
Other leaders of Belarus’ swimming team also made it to the podium. Anastasia Vasilenka placed second in the 50m breaststroke and third in the 100m freestyle. Maksim Malyshka earned a silver medal in the 200m breaststroke and a bronze in the 400m individual medley.
The swimming tournament at the 3rd CIS Games will wrap up in Ganja on 2 October. Team Belarus already earned 5 gold medals at this comprehensive sports tournament.
