2026 Winter Olympics opening ceremony

The show titled Harmony and the athletes’ parade took place across multiple venues on 6 February: in Milan (San Siro) and Cortina d'Ampezzo (the Alps), Predazzo, and Livigno. This first-ever double ceremony symbolized the union of Italy’s urban and mountainous landscapes.

The heart of the celebration was the San Siro Stadium, where renowned artists Mariah Carey and Andrea Bocelli performed.

The concert program was further adorned by appearances from Italian celebrities such as Pierfrancesco Favino, Sabrina Impacciatore, Laura Pausini, rapper Ghali, and mezzo-soprano Cecilia Bartoli. Chinese pianist Lang Lang also performed his piece.

IOC President Kirsty Coventry addressed the participants. She emphasized the importance of keeping sport free from political influence, stating that every athlete must have the opportunity to compete.

I call for unity, mutual respect, and support among athletes from different countries. This is the magic of the Olympic Games: inspiring us all to be the best that we can be – together, through courage, compassion, and kindness, she said.

Italian President Sergio Mattarella declared the Winter Games open.

For the first time, two Olympic cauldrons were lit simultaneously in different cities: in Milan, at the Arch of Peace, and in Cortina d'Ampezzo, highlighting the unity between Italy’s northern and southern regions. The theme of unity between city and nature was a central part of the program.

The XXV Winter Olympic Games will conclude on 22 February, offering the world new records and sporting achievements.
