Famous Belarusian hammer thrower Ivan Tikhon was elected Chairman of the Belarusian Athletic Federation on September 24 at an election conference in Minsk.
The two-time Olympic medalist replaced Vadzim Devyatouski who head the Federation since September 2014.
Ivan Tikhon thanked the coaches and athletes for the work they do for the development of the sport. "Many of the projects of track and field athletics became landmark events for the Belarusian sport. The team that Vadim Devyatovsky gathered in Belarus Athletic Federation proved itself with deeds and results. Athletics will remain a strong and friendly family," said the new Chairman of the Federation.
He also stressed that the efforts of the national team will be aimed at preparing for the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
Ivan Tikhon was born on July 24, 1976 in Hlousevichy (Grodno region).
Honored master of sports of the Republic of Belarus (2004).
Silver medal at the XXXI Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro (hammer throw).
Bronze medal at the XXIX Olympic Games in Beijing. Two-time world champion in hammer throw.
Awarded with the Order of the Fatherland (II and III degrees) and the Order of Honor.
