IOC will get vaccine for athletes at Tokyo Games

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) and pharmaceutical companies Pfizer and BioNTech signed a memorandum on the provision of their drug for vaccination against coronavirus athletes (optional) at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, the press service of the IOC reports.

"The donation of the vaccine is another tool in our arsenal of measures that are designed to make the Tokyo Games safe for all participants and to demonstrate the solidarity of the organizers," said IOC President Thomas Bach.

The IOC expects that a significant portion of the participants in the Games will be vaccinated before arriving in Japan.

The Games XXXII Olympiad were postponed in 2020 to 2021 due to the spread of coronavirus in the world. The starts in Tokyo will take place from July 23 to August 8.
