The National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Belarus held a regular Executive Committee meeting at NOC Olympic press-centre “Vancouver 2010”.
The agenda included two main issues:
1) The approval of the members of Belarusian delegation to the XXI Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver (Canada).
2) The work of NOC region representative offices, the representative offices in Minsk and Bobruisk on the development of the “Olympian Quality” campaign.
The plan of NOC activities and the budget for the year of 2010 were also discussed at the meeting.
The Executive Committee members calculated the final results of the contest “10 Best Athletes, the Best Coach and the Best Team of the Year 2009”.
The report on the first matter of agenda was made by Dmitry Shichko, the Minister of Sport and Tourism, the chief of Belarusian delegation to the Olympic Games in Vancouver. He reported that at present the preliminary Belarusian Olympic Delegation consists of 121 members.
The final composition of the delegation will be known on 18 January, when the International Ski Federation and the International Skating Federation give the lists of athletes approved for the Games.
Dmitry Shichko pointed out that the greatest hopes for medals at the Olympic Games in Vancouver are centered on women’s biathlon team and freestyle ski team.
The report on the work of NOC Representative Offices in regions, Minsk city and Bobruisk on the development of the “Olympian Quality” campaign was made by Leonid Chromenkov.
The main goal of the “Olympian Quality” campaign is the propaganda of Olympic movement in the Republic of Belarus through the placement of NOC Belarus logo on the products. Taking part in the campaign, the enterprises make a great contribution in the preparing of Belarusian athletes for the Olympic Games in Vancouver.
More than 70 enterprises took part in the campaign.
Final results of the contest “10 Best Athletes, the Best Coach and the Best Team of the Year 2009” were also discussed at the meeting. The contest was held by NOC and the newspaper “Panorama”.
It was for the 51th when the newspaper “Sports Panorama” and the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Belarus hold the annual republican contest “10 Best Athletes, the Best coach and the best teams of the Republic of Belarus 2009”. The journalists of the newspaper “Sports Panorama” questioned 120 sports journalists of the country. 83 athletes were nominated what was the record for the 51-year long history of annual questionings of Belarusian sports correspondents.
Final results of the contest will be published in the newspaper “Sports Panorama” on 18 December.
