Yelena Belova (Novikova)

Born on July 28, 1947 in Khabarovsk region.

Four-time Olympic champion. Champion of the XIX Olympic Games 1968 in Mexico City in individual and team competitions. Champion of the XX Olympics 1972 in Munich and XXI Olympics 1976 in Montreal in team competitions.

Silver medalist of the Games of the XXII Olympiad 1980 in Moscow (USSR) in team competitions.

Bronze medalist of the Games of the XXI Olympiad 1976 in Montreal (Canada) in individual.

None of the rankings published on the eve of the Olympics 68 contained her name. However, she appeared the only fencer who won two gold awards, therefore Elena became the owner of Surprise Prize founded by editorial “Literaturnaya gazeta".

The only female Olympic champion in individuals in the history of Soviet and Belarusian fencing.

Was awarded the titles “Merited Master of Sports”, “MeritedCoach”, “Merited Master of Physical Culture and Sport”, Orders “Friendship of Peoples”, two Badges of Honor and Order of Fatherland III class.
