PyeongChang 2018. Belarusian skiers failed to qualify for team sprint finals

Two competitions in cross-country skiing were held today for women’s and men’s duets in the Alpensia Cross-Country Centre.

Belarus’ couple of Yulia Tikhanova and Polina Seronosova took the 8th place with the result 17:33.63 minutes (+1:00.35) and therefore did not pass qualification.

Men’s duo of Yury Astapenko and Michail Semenov also couldn’t enter the finals. They reached the finish line in 16:32.31 minutes 33.47 seconds back to leaders.

Andrey Kovalenko, the head of Belarus Ski Union, noticed that Belarusian athletes cannot provide competition to the best world skiers yet. But it’s not the reason for thoughts we will always play the second fiddle. “Shortly after the Olympic Games are over we are going to make analysis of our performance and think over all the ups and downs of the team”.

Regarding the final races of the Belarusian team, i.e. women’s 30 km marathon and men’s 50 km classic, Andrey Kovalenko said he believed in our woman team. To place among top 20 teams would be quite a good result.
