European athletes beat the US team in the track and field match in Minsk

At the Dinamo National Olympic Stadium, the Match between of Europe vs USA has ended.

The European team won, got a long start over rivals.

Athletes noted the great atmosphere and conditions at Dinamo Stadium and expressed a desire to return to the capital of Belarus again.

Fourteen Belarusian athletes competed for the European team. The fans were pleased with Anastasia Mironchik-Ivanova, who won in the long jump - 6 m 74 cm. The second was another representative of team Europe, Ukrainian Marina Bekh-Romanchuk - 6 m 73 cm.

Anastasia Mironchik-Ivanova thanked the fans at the stadium. “Belarusians fans know how to support: it doesn’t matter whether our athlete or American. They gave us positive emotions that affected my result. The rivals created a high level of competition, it was interesting to compete. Thanks to this, I won the tournament for the first time in a long time. This motivates on the eve of the World Cup "- said Anastasia Mironchik-Ivanova.

On the second competition day, Belarusian fans were worried about Hanna Malyshik in the hammer throw, which took second place (72 m 70 cm). The victory was won by Joanna Fiodorow (Poland) - 74 m 34 cm, as well as Alena Dubitskaya in the shot put (fifth position), Karina Demidik (Taranda) in the high jump and Elvira Herman in the 100 hurdles (third place).

Оne of the leaders of the world season Orlando Ortega from Spain (13,21 seconds) won in the sprint race on 110 m hurdless. 

At 800 m race, Amel Tuka from Bosnia and Herzegovina finished first (1 min. 46,77 sec.), and the second - Adam Kszhot from Poland (1 min. 46,89 sec.).

“For me, this is the first competition in Belarus. I understand the level of this match very well. I like the format of the competition as a team. Today the weather is excellent in Minsk, I managed to walk around the city. I am pleased with my result here in Minsk, I did everything for the European team in my power, brought the necessary points», - added Orlando Ortega for press service NOC of Belarus.

Ramil Guliyev from Turkey confirmed his class in the 200m race – 20,26 seconds. “Excellent competitions, before the championship in Qatar it’s a good idea to test your capabilities. A serious team of rivals gathered in Minsk, which made these competitions so exciting,” – said Guliyev.

The match meeting ended with a convincing victory for Europe with a score of 724.5 points, 601.5 for the United States of America. Two years later, in 2021, such competitions are planned to be held in North America.

The first ever track and field match between Europe and the USA was held at the Dinamo National Olympic Stadium on September 9-10. It was attended by more than 300 athletes.
